The Burlington Zephyr

The Burlington Zephyr, the first streamlined diesel powered train, was a true milestone in railroading.  Created in 1934 by the Budd Company, the train featured shining, stainless steel cars permanently articulated together.  In May of 1934, the train set the speed record traveling between Denver and Chicago reaching a top speed of over 112 miles per hour.
